As our Cook in Charge, you will support the day-to-day operation of the school kitchen, helping to ensure meals are prepared and served to a high standard while maintaining excellent levels of food safety, hygiene and customer care.
You will:
- Plan, prepare and cook healthy, nutritious meals for pupils.
- Ensure all food hygiene, allergen and health and safety requirements are met.

- Maintain accurate compliance records.
- Work closely with the Catering Manager and catering team to deliver an efficient and effective catering service.
- Support catering arrangements for school trips, events and special occasions.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and visitors.
- Help create a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience for all children.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a sound understanding of food preparation and kitchen operations.
- Has excellent knowledge of food allergens and food safety requirements.
- Can remain calm and organised in a busy environment.
- Works effectively as part of a team and is willing to support colleagues where needed.
- Has strong organisational, communication and record-keeping skills.
- Is confident using IT systems and online ordering platforms.
- Enjoys working in a school environment and engaging positively with children.
- Is reliable, professional, flexible and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification.
- First Aid training.
- Experience working within a school or educational setting.
- Experience of menu planning, food cost control and food hygiene inspections.
At St George's, our vision is rooted in providing a caring, inclusive and nurturing environment where every child is valued and encouraged to flourish. Our catering team plays an important role in supporting pupil wellbeing, helping children develop healthy eating habits and ensuring lunchtime is a positive part of the school day.
This is a rewarding opportunity to become part of a friendly and supportive school community where your contribution is valued and where the work you do has a direct impact on the daily experience of our pupils.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references, an Enhanced DBS check and pre-employment checks.
Join us and help make every school meal a positive experience for our pupils.
