Hawthorn Academy is a newly established specialist school in Bracknell, for pupils aged 11-16 with a range of complex Special Educational Needs. The school operates as a part of The Propeller Academy Trust, reflecting a strong commitment to high-quality, inclusive, and specialist provision.

About the Role

  1. Support teachers by delivering agreed learning activities under supervision
  2. Assist in implementing the National, Developmental, and School Curriculum
  3. Plan, prepare, and deliver learning sessions for individuals, small groups, or short-term whole classes
  4. Lead and develop a specialist area within the school
  5. Act as a key communication link between leadership, teaching staff, and TAs
  6. Support recruitment, induction, mentoring, and training of new TAs
  7. Supervise and support Teaching Assistants, including work allocation, monitoring, appraisal, and training
  8. Build positive relationships and act as a trusted adult
  9. Assist with planning, monitoring and reporting on pupil progress
  10. Work with parents, staff and external agencies to support outcomes
  11. Maintain safeguarding, wellbeing and professional standards
  12. Engage in ongoing training, including HLTA qualification (if required)
  13. Engage in ongoing professional development, including working towards HLTA qualification (if required)

 Who We’re Looking For

 

  1. GCSE English and maths (Grade 4/C or equivalent)
  2. HLTA qualification or equivalent, or willingness to complete the qualification within 6 months of starting in the role
  3. First-Aid training or willingness to complete it
  4. Strong experience supporting children or young people, ideally in a school or other educational setting
  5. Confident planning and leading teaching and learning activities (under supervision)
  6. Calm, patient and emotionally resilient
  7. Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
  8. Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  9. Understanding of pupil needs, including SEND
  10. Ability to support teaching, learning and behaviour effectively
  11. Calm, resilient and able to manage challenging situations
  12. Knowledge of safeguarding and commitment to pupil wellbeing
