Career guide
Build a sustainable weekly job-search system
Define a focused search
Choose a small set of role families, locations, work modes, and non-negotiable conditions. Create saved searches for these combinations instead of running one broad query repeatedly. Review alerts in batches so every notification does not interrupt focused work.
Use a simple opportunity score
Before applying, compare required skills, preferred skills, location, compensation evidence, language, authorization, and genuine interest. A score should help you prioritize; it should not automatically reject a role because one optional keyword is missing. Read the original employer page before investing in a tailored application.
Keep an application record
Track the canonical job link, company, title, source, date applied, résumé version, contact, next action, and status. Save a short note about why the role fits. Do not store passwords, identity documents, or sensitive interview material in an unprotected tracker.
Plan the week
- Discover and shortlist roles in one or two sessions.
- Tailor and submit the strongest applications during protected focus time.
- Prepare networking messages that are specific and respectful.
- Follow up once when a reasonable response window has passed.
- Review outcomes and improve one part of the process each week.
Measure useful signals: qualified applications, replies, screening calls, interviews, and offers. A high application count alone can hide poor targeting. If a stage repeatedly fails, diagnose that stage: search criteria, résumé evidence, screening answers, interview stories, or offer alignment. Rest belongs in the system too; a sustainable process produces better decisions than continuous anxious searching.
